Rochester Powers Past SUNY Oswego, 79-53

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 26, 2013) – With a commanding 48-22 advantage in points in the paint, the University of Rochester posted a 79-53 victory over SUNY Oswego in women's basketball on Tuesday evening at the Louis Alexander Palestra. 

It was Rochester's second straight win over an opponent that was 3-0 entering the game. On Saturday, the Yellowjackets defeated SUNY Oneonta, 60-55. Rochester is 3-2. Oswego, which was averaging 79.7 points a game entering the game, is 3-1.

Loren Wagner (Traverse City, MI/Traverse City West) scored 18 points to lead Rochester. Kelsey Hurley (Honeoye Falls, NY/HF-Lima) added 15, and Ally Zywicki (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored 10. Wagner grabbed nine rebounds, blocked two shots, made three steals, and had two assists. Hurley hit seven of 13 from the floor enroute to a career high point total. She had five assists as did Zywicki.

Jenn Robbins (Geneva, NY/Geneva) scored a game-high 19 points for Oswego, hitting three of five outside the arc and seven of 17 overall. Taylor Sorell (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal) scored 10 points and Heather Hebert (Hilton, NY/Hilton) contributed nine points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Rochester hit 33 of 66 floor shots (50%), four of 12 outside the arac (33%) and nine of 12 fgrom the line (75%). Oswego hit 35.1% for the game, making 20 of 57 sloot shots. The Lakers were just eight of 32 (25%) in the second half, two of 11 on three-pointers (18.2%).

The Yellowjackets used an 8-3 run midway through the first half to build a 26-17 lead with four players scoring. Oswego stayed close, drawing within 32-25 when Robbins hit a trey from the top of the key with five minutes left. Hurley scored five points, a conventional three-point play followed by a layup, to start an 11-2 run that stretched the lead to 16, 43-27. It was 43-29 at halftime.
