Wayne, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team nearly knocked off #18 William Paterson but fell, 66-65, in double overtime last night in Wayne, N.J. The Rams dropped to 1-2 on the year, while the Pioneers improved to 2-1.

Trailing 27-23 at the start of the second half, Farmingdale State opened with a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 30-27. The Rams led by seven, 52-45, with 4:29 remaining, before seven unanswered William Paterson points tied the game. Each team connected on one free-throw over the final 2:15 as the game headed to overtime tied 53-53.

Farmingdale State junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) started the overtime period with a layup and free-throw and senior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) connected on a jumper to open up a 58-53 advantage. The Pioneers trailed by three with 14 seconds remaining, until senior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J.) hit a 3-pointer to even the score at 60-60.

William Paterson started double overtime on a 6-0 run to lead 66-60 with 2:20 left to play. After a Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) 3-pointer and two free-throw's by Romero, the Rams trailed by only one but were unable to score over the final 1:24 and fell, 66-65.

Romero led all scorers with 23 points and senior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) had a game-high 20 rebounds for the Rams.

The Pioneers were led by senior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J.) who had a triple-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals, while senior guard Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Penn.) scored a team-leading 17 points.

Farmingdale State next will face Ithaca at the Amherst Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, November 23rd at 8:00 p.m.
