Brooklyn Falls in Vassar Tip-Off Championship Game

Poughkeepsie, NY --- In the championship game of the 2013 Vassar College Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon, the Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team (1-1) fell to host Vassar (2-0) by the score of 75-42.

Brooklyn was led by senior Megan Campbell's team-high 10 points on 5-for-13 shooting. Junior Carissa Williams added nine points and five rebounds, while classmate Nacirema Mann also finished with nine points and five rebounds coming off the bench. Junior Asia Foster chipped in with a team-best seven rebounds, to go with six points, also coming off the bench.

Vassar had five players score in double figures, led by Cydni Matsuoka's game-high of 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field, while dishing out six assists. Hannah Senftleber finished the game with a double-double, scoring 15 points, to go along with a game-leading 13 rebounds. Caitlyn Drakeley and Michelle Foreman each had 11 points, while Nyah Berg contributed with 10 points and six assists.

The first half featured a tight, back and forth affair, as both teams combined for seven ties and six lead changes. Following a jumper from Campbell that gave BC a 25-23 edge with 4:13 remaining before the break, Vassar closed out the period with a 9-0 run to take a seven point, 32-25, halftime advantage.

After a layup and three-pointer from the Brewers, the Bulldogs would end their scoring drought at the 18:00 minute mark of the second half on a layup from senior Zoe Randolph, which made the score 37-27 in favor of the home team.

That's as close as BC would get the rest of the way, as Vassar would go on to cruise to its 75-42 victory.

For the game, Brooklyn shot just 32.1% (18-for-56) from the field, including just 5.6% (1-for-18) from beyond the arc. Vassar shot 49.2% (30-for-61) from the field and 35.7% (5-for-14) from three. The Brewers also held the rebounding edge, 44-33.

Brooklyn returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, November 20th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Mahwah, NJ to take on the Roadrunners of Ramapo College. The non-conference game is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
