Brooklyn Opens Vassar Tip-Off Tournament with 67-40 Win

Poughkeepsie, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team opened the 2013-2014 season with a convincing 67-40 victory against Plymouth State University in the opening day of the 2013 Vassar College Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night.

With the win, BC begins the year with a 1-0 record and will advance to Saturday's championship game against host Vassar (1-0) at 4:00 pm. Vassar defeated Wellesley College (0-1), 55-41, in the first game of the day. Wellesley and Plymouth State (0-1) will play in the consolation game at 2:00 pm.

The Bulldogs took control of the game from the opening tip, as BC scored the first 11 points of the game and never looked back. Brooklyn would eventually take a 39-14 halftime advantage. The Panthers scored their first points of the game at the 12:55 mark of the first period.

BC held Plymouth State to just 11.5% (3-for-26) shooting in the half en route to its 25-point halftime lead. Brooklyn shot 42.1% (16-for-38) in the half.

The second half featured much of the same, as Brooklyn would continue to build on its lead, eventually going up by as many as 34, 58-24, with 12:39 remaining in the game.

The deficit would be too much for the Panthers to overcome, as the Bulldogs would go on to cruise to their 67-40 win.

The tenacious BC defense forced Plymouth State into 27 turnovers, which led to 20 points for the Bulldogs. Brooklyn also held the points in the paint edge, 28-18, as well as an advantage in second chance points, 15-10.

Brooklyn also won the battle of the glass, 50-42.

BC had four players score in double figures, led by junior Carissa Williams, who led all scorers with a game-high 17 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field, to go along with six rebounds in her Brooklyn debut. Senior Zoe Randolph had a career-game with 15 points and five assists, while junior Nacirema Mann chipped in with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds coming off the bench. Senior Megan Campbell finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while classmate T'Keyah Francis also grabbed seven boards.

For Plymouth State, Rosalie Edwards finished with a team-best 11 points and six rebounds coming off the bench, while Kristen Hrubowchak added eight points, also coming off the bench. Bry Bennett grabbed eight rebounds.
