Warhawks Win SNC Tipoff Tournament

UW-W opened the game on a 10-3 run at the 16:40 mark. The Warhawks lead would hit 19, 34-15, with 3:06 left, the largest advantage in the game, after Mandrell hit two free throws. SNC closed the half on a 7-2 run to pull within 14, 36-22 as the teams headed into the locker rooms. 

The Warhawks posted 16 points off turnovers and shot 53.8% from the field in the first twenty minutes. UW-W's defense held the Green Knights to 25% shooting in the first half.

Katie Burton extended Whitewater's lead to 39-22 with a three-pointer just 44 seconds into the second half. A 9-0 SNC run lasting almost three minutes cut the Warhawk lead to eight, 39-31 with 16:23 left in the game. 

Whitewater's advantage hovered around double figures until the Green Knights were able to pull within five, 52-47 with the clock showing 7:19. That was as close as SNC would get as the Warhawks quickly pushed the lead back into double digits and held the advantage until the final buzzer sounded with scoreboard showing 72-61 in favor of UW-W.

St. Norbert used 19 points off the bench to cut the margin down to five in the second half but Whitewater responded with 15 points off turnovers and six points in the paint after intermission.

Statistically, the game was a tale of two halves. Whitewater and St. Norbert's shooting percentages flipped flopped from the first half. UW-W shot just 28.6% from the floor while the Green Knights improved to 51.7%. 

Mandrell led all players with 16 points and nine boards in the game. Burton added 15 points and seven rebounds and Reeves rounded out the double digit scorers for Whitewater with 14. Thill led all defenders with eight steals.

UW-W will head south to take on the University of Chicago Tuesday, November 19 at 6:00.
