Keystone Storms Past Cazenovia in Season-Opener, 104-64

La Plume, PA – Keystone College's women's basketball team opened the 2013-14 season with a convincing, 104-64 victory over Cazenovia College on Saturday afternoon in the season-opener for both teams.  The Giants scored their most points in a game since beginning competition at the NCAA Division III level while recording the third most points in a contest in program history. 
 
Keystone built a 16-4 lead over the first five and a half minutes of Saturday's season-opener behind four three-pointers.  Cazenovia countered with a 10-1 run to cut their deficit to 17-14 with 10:52 remaining in the opening half, but the Giants again extended their lead to 10 points before another surge by the Wildcats cut the host's lead to 28-25 with 5:09 left on the clock.  Keystone would outscore Cazenovia 22-9 over the remainder of the period to hold a 50-34 lead at the halftime break.
 
Alyssa Cuomo (Odessa, DE/Hodgson Vo-tech) led Keystone with 14 points and four rebounds in the first half while Jazmyn Robinson (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern) added nine points and five assists for the Giants, who shot a hot, 57.6 percent from the opening 20 minutes of play while going seven of 15 from beyond the arc.
 
Erin O'Malley had 12 points in the first half to pace Cazenovia, who hit on 45.5 percent of their shots from the floor in the stanza.
 
The Giants opened the second half with a 7-4 run to extend their lead to 21 points at 57-36.  The Wildcats narrowed their deficit to 17 points with 17:11 left to play, but Keystone responded with a 19-4 run to put the game out of reach, leading by 32 points with 10:47 to play.
 
AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) finished with a game-high 19 points for Keystone after connecting on nine of 12 attempts from the floor in the game.  Robinson added 17 points to go along with game-highs of eight assists and five steals while Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) added 17 points as well.  Cuomo finished with 16 points while Chantel Blake (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) was the fifth Giants' player in double-figures with 14 points in the win.  Jerica Rode (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack) pulled down a game-high seven rebounds on the afternoon as the hosts held a slim, 42-39 advantage on the glass.
 
For the game, Keystone shot 53.6 percent from the floor, 40 percent from three-point range, and 62.5 percent from the free throw line.
 
O'Malley finished the contest with 16 points before fouling out midway through the second half to lead Cazenovia's offense.  Mary Salo added 12 points and Haley Zambito tallied 11 points on the afternoon in the loss.  Kimberly Vrigian led the visitors with seven assists while O'Malley, Salo, and Alyssa Conner each tied for the team lead with six rebounds in the contest.
 
Keystone will return to action on Tuesday evening when they host Mercy College in a non-conference game scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.
