Women's Basketball Falls Short at Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team lost at Brooklyn College 68-55 on Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss brings the Bloodhounds back to .500 this season as they fall to 7-7 overall and 5-2 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. Brooklyn College improves to 9-4 (4-2 CUNYAC).
 
John Jay was led by Jamecia Forsythe with a double-double of 25 points and 13 rebounds. She shot 10-for-15 from the floor and added a block and three steals. Tyana Hale and Simone Victor added nine points apiece. Hale added nine rebounds for the Bloodhounds.
 
Brooklyn College was led by Brittany Bowen with 15 points, eight rebounds and seven steals, while Tiffany Thompson had 13 points and two blocks.


The host Bulldogs led from start to finish en route to the win. Brooklyn opened the game scoring the first 10 points to lead 10-0 with just over three minutes gone by. The Bulldogs led by as much as 16 in the first half and led 24-8 midway through the opening stanza.
 
John Jay cut the deficit to as little as seven points late in the first half and the Bloodhounds trailed 33-26 with twenty-nine seconds to go. Brooklyn scored the final two points of the first half to take a 35-26 lead at the break.
 
John Jay opened the second period on an 8-3 run to get its deficit down to four capped by a continuation three point play by Forsythe with 15:13 to play.
 
But the Bulldogs outscored the Bloodhounds 18-2 over the next ten and a half minutes to take their biggest lead of the contest as Brooklyn was up 56-36 with 4:46 to play.
 
From there Brooklyn maintained a double-digit lead en route to the win. The Bloodhounds got the lead down to thirteen in the latter stages of the game, but Brooklyn's lead proved to be enough.
 
Brooklyn outscored John Jay by thirteen in points off turnovers as the Bulldogs outscored the Bloodhounds 24-11 on points off turnovers. John Jay committed 26 turnovers to Brooklyn's 19.
 
John Jay returns to action on Mon. Jan. 14 for a home game against St. Joseph's-Long Island at 5 p.m.
