More news about: Mount Ida

Tuesday, February 12, 2013 (Boston, Massachusetts) - Led by a team team-high 17 points from senior captain Evebonee Acosta (Hartford, CT/Bulkeley), the Mount Ida College women's basketball team was downed by hosting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) member Suffolk University Tuesday evening in Boston, Massachusetts by a score of 67-48.

Sophomore Jenn Rafuse (Brockton, MA/Brockton) finished the night with 11 rebounds and a team-high four steals for the Mustangs, while junior Abbey Fedigan (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) and sophomore Allison O'Connor (Leominster, MA/Leominster) each scored nine points.

Ram senior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, NH) led all scorers with 20 points to lead the Suffolk University's offense for the evening.  Vienneau also added seven rebounds, and had team-highs with five assists and five steals to lead the Rams to their fifth straight victory as they improve to an 18-5 overall mark on the year and have won nine of 10 GNAC contests thus far.  The loss drops Mount Ida to a 6-17 record on the year as they remain winless in 10 GNAC games this season.

Junior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, CT) scored 12 points while collecting seven rebounds, and sophomore Tori Brillaud (North Andover, MA) finished the evening with a team-high nine rebounds also chipping in with 10 points.  Suffolk held a distinctive advantage on the glass as they out-rebounded Mount Ida by a 67-48 margin.

The Rams led throughout the entire 40 minute contest as they took a 35-20 lead into halftime with Vienneau and sophomore Shelby Santini (Winchester, MA) carrying the offensive load. Vienneau scored nine points in the opening twenty minutes of play, while Santini netted her game's eight points in the period.

An 11-0 run midway through the second half would propel the Rams to a 22-point margin as a free-throw by senior Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, MA) made it a 53-31 game with 11 minutes remaining.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action on Thursday evening with re-scheduled games due to this past weekend's winter storm Nemo. Mount Ida will host the Blue Jays of St. Joseph University at 7:00 p.m. with both teams taking part in the "Play 4 Kay" Breast Cancer Awareness annual event.
