FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team outrebounded Johnson State College 54 to 41, forced the Badgers into committing 31 turnovers, and rolled to a 70-46 North Atlantic Conference victory on Sunday afternoon at Dearborn Gym.

UMaine-Farmington improved to 9-7 in the NAC with the win, 9-13 overall, while Johnson State fell to 5-17 overall, 2-13 in the NAC.

Both the Beavers and the Badgers shot 32 percent from the field, but that wasn't the most telling statistics on the boxscore. UMaine-Farmington had a 25 to 8 advantage on the offensive glass, leading the Beavers to 18 second-chance points. UMF also charted 31 points off Johnson State's 31 turnovers.

Johnson State also committed 24 personal fouls, sending Farmington to the line for 32 foul shots. The Beavers connected on 20 of those for a 63 percent free-throw shooting percentage.

Junior Holly Oliver (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Messalonskee) recorded her second double-double in as many games with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead UMaine-Farmington offensively. Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine/Medomak Valley) finished with 13 points and also grabbed a career-high seven steals.

Freshman Meghan Smith (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Regional) came off the bench to add 10 points along with seven rebounds.

Johnson State's Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt.) led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field. Jenessa Swainbank (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) chipped in with seven points off the bench. Emily Jones (Craftsbury, Vt.) paced the Badgers on the glass with seven boards.

After a see-saw first half with four lead changes and two ties, UMaine-Farmington eventually opened up an 11-point halftime lead, 31-20. A 15-2 run by the Beavers lasting nearly seven minutes helped guide UMF to the comfortable lead at the break.

The Beavers dominated play in the second half, with Johnson State just briefly cutting the margin to single digits for one possession. UMF's lead reached its widest at 27 points, 70-43, following a layup by guard Shelbee Lancaster (Dexter, Maine/Dexter Regional) with 1:10 to play.

UMaine-Farmington will return to the court on Tuesday, Feb. 12, when it faces Husson University in a NAC road game. Start time is 7:30 p.m. at Newman Gym. Johnson State also returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Castleton State in a 7:30 p.m. tip.
