No. 8 Thomas More Clinches Share of 8th Straight PAC Regular Season With an 89-39 Win Over Thiel

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The eighth-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team clinched at least a share of its eighth-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming PAC Tournament today (Saturday (February 9, 2013) as it defeated Thiel College, 89-39, on Senior Day at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

The Saints improved to 22-1 overall and 16-0 in the PAC and extended their winning streak to 19 games with the win.  With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 6-17 overall and 5-11 in the PAC.

Thomas More opened the game on an 11-0 run capped by a three-pointer by senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) with 16:18 to play in the half.  Thiel responded with a 4-2 run to cut the lead to 13-4 when Kelly Barzak made two free-throws with 14:41 to play in the first half.  The Saints answered with a 40-12 run to extend the lead to 53-16 when Long made a lay-up with 2:32 to play in the opening half.  Thiel scored the final four points of the first half to cut the Saints' lead to 53-20 at halftime.

Thiel opened the second half on a 6-4 run to cut the lead to 57-26 with 17:22 to play in the game when Barzak made a lay-up.  That would be as close as the Tomcats would come as Thomas More closed out the game on a 32-13 run for the 89-39 victory.

For the game, the Saints out-scored Thiel, 39-6, off turnovers, 26-2, on fast break points, 34-12, in the paint and, 29-5, on bench points.

Long led all scorers with a season-high 31 points and was joined in double-figure scoring by junior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) with 16 points and senior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with 13 points, while senior guard Jill Burnsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) just missed double-figures with nine points.  Junior forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) led the team on the boards with a game-high-tying 10 rebounds.  Long and Brunsman led the team in assists with four each, while Long led the team in steals with five.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday (February 13) when they host Bethany College at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
