New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 63-35, in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) contest on Wednesday evening at the Doghouse on the campus of John Jay.

With the win, BC extends its season-high winning streak to nine straight to improve to 18-5 overall on the year and 12-2 in the CUNYAC; while John Jay drops to 13-11 overall on the season and 10-5 in conference play.

The Bulldogs never trailed in the game as Brooklyn scored the first seven points of the game. Vanessa D'Ambrosi, Charnelle Saint Laurent and Tiffany Thompson all contributed to the 7-0 run. John Jay scored its first points of the game at the 15:29 mark of the opening half.

Brooklyn would lead by as many as 14, 20-6, with 10:08 remaining in the half, before the Bloodhounds cut their deficit down to five, 22-17, with 5:49 left before the halftime break.

BC would not allow John Jay to get any closer, as the Bulldogs used a 10-0 run rebuild its double digit lead to 15, 32-17, at the 4:21 mark. Brooklyn held its largest lead of the half at 23, 42-19, before taking a 42-22 halftime lead.

The Bloodhounds would be unable to recover from its first half deficit, as John Jay was held to just 13 points on 23.1% (6-26) shooting from the field in the second half. Brooklyn also struggled from the field in the second half converting 23.3% (7-30) from the field, but the visitors would still go on to cruise to its 63-35 win.

Leading the way to the BC victory was Thompson, who recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs. Saint Laurent finished the night with 12 points, while D'Ambrosi netted 11 points. Senior Trina Payne provided solid minutes off the bench with six assists and five points.

John Jay's Victoria Story led the Bloodhounds with a team-high 12 points. Danielle Eagan finished with nine points, six rebounds and four steals, while Aneska Tejada added eight points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Brooklyn also won the battle of the glass holding a 53-33 rebounding advantage.

For the game, BC shot 36.9% (24-65) from the field and 36.4% (8-22) from three. The Bulldogs struggled from the free throw line, going 7-for-17 (41.2%) from the charity stripe.

John Jay finished the game shooting 27.1% (16-59) from the field, while going just 1-for-9 (11.1%) from beyond the arc.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Saturday, February 9th, as the Bulldogs will welcome the Hawks of Hunter College in CUNYAC action for the final regular season home game for BC. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 pm. Seniors Karolina Gorna, Thompson, Saint Laurent, Brittany Bowen and Payne will all be honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day celebrations.
