SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Western New England University women's basketball senior tri-captain Emily Savino has earned player of the week honors from both the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), it was announced on Monday.

The Ellington (Conn.) High School product led the Golden Bears to a 3-0 week versus CCC competition that ended Sunday, averaging 20.7 points, 3.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds while playing all but four minutes over three games. Savino shot 47 percent from the field (18-of-38) and made 9-of-14 3-pointers for an eye-popping 64 percent.

In a 53-51 win over Salve Regina on Tuesday, she made the game-winning lay-up with 13 seconds left, as WNE avenged a 22-point loss to the Seahawks earlier in the season. Then she netted a season-high 25 points in the Golden Bears' 56-42 win at Wentworth on Thursday. She capped the week on Saturday by recording 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a 62-52 victory over Endicott.

Savino also moved up two spots to rank sixth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,315 points. She trails Erin Marino, who scored 1327 from 1997 to 2001, for fifth place.

For the season, Savino ranks first in CCC points (329) and free throw percentage (83.7; 82-98), second in scoring average (15.7 ppg) and fourth in assists (77).

This marks Savino's first CCC and NEWBA regional weekly honors both since Feb. 7 of last season.
