Shannon Allan Nets 18 as Hornets Fall to Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team held an early lead, but sophomore Shannon Allan's 18 points were not enough as Shenandoah University charged back for a 50-44 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

Shenandoah took an early 11-7 lead before Lynchburg went on an 8-0 run to take its first lead of the game.

Allan knocked down her second basket of the game to cut the lead to two. Freshman Chaney Forbush followed up Allan with a layup on the next possession, tying the game for the first time with 13:25 to play in the half.

The Hornets added a pair of free throws by junior Caleigh Patterson and a jumper by freshman Sarah Toliver to take the 15-11 lead.

Shenandoah stormed back to take a three-point lead into halftime on a layup by Gabrielle Clarke with 31 seconds remaining in the half.

Lynchburg stayed within one possession for the majority of the second half, taking its final lead, 35-34, at 10:39 on a pair of free throws from sophomore Lauren Penley.

Penley was the only other Hornet in double-figures with 14 points to go with eight boards. Allan and Forbush led the Hornets with nine rebounds each.

Crystal Petrus led Shenandoah (9-10/5-5) with a game-high 19 points and 10 boards for the double-double.

Lynchburg (11-7/6-4) returns home on Wednesday, January 30 for an ODAC matchup against Randolph College (3-15/1-9) at 7 p.m.
