Rochester Downs Case for Fourth Straight UAA Win

CLEVELAND – The University of Rochester stayed in the thick of the University Athletic Association women's race by posting a 75-55 victory over Case Western Reserve University on Sunday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

Rochester improved to 12-4 overall, 4-1 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets have won four straight in UAA play after losing a double overtime decision to Emory in the Palestra two weeks ago. Case is 10-5 overall, 2-3 in the UAA.

Case went ice cold over a seven minute stretch in the first half and Rochester took advantage. The Spartans were 0-13 from the floor and turned the ball over six times. Rochester ran off 23 straight points to take a commanding 28-10 lead with 4:17 left in the half. It was 34-14 at halftime.

Ally Zywicki scored all seven of her points in that burst. She made two free throws to nudge Rochester ahead, 14-10, later followed with a three-pointer (22-10), and closed the run with a layup (28-10). 

Paige Aleski sank two of her four three-pointers in the spurt. Her first trey evened the game at 10-10 and her second made it 26-10. Jackie Walker had four points while Kristyn Wright, Amy Woods, and Breanna Madrazo scored two each.

Aleski led Rochester with 14 points in 15 minutes off the bench. The four treys match her career high. Walker had 11 points. Woods and Madrazo scored 10 apiece. 

Rochester shot 40.6% from the floor (28 of 69), 39.3% outside the arc (11 of 28), and made eight of 11 from the line (72.7%). Case shot 34.9% for the game (22 of 63), 33.3% outside the arc (four of 12), and made seven of nine from the line (77.8%).

Emily Muller led the Spartans with 12 points. Berit Eppard scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Erica Iafelice had eight assists and eight rebounds to accompany two points. Evy Iacono, the UAA women's scoring leader at 19.3 ppg., scored five points.

Rochester held a slight 43-42 rebounding advantage. The Yellowjackets scored 16 second chance points off 15 offensive rebounds. The Spartans had nine second chance points. Rochester had 18 points off 15 Case turnovers. Zywicki had three of Rochester's 11 steals.
