Royal Pressure Too Much as Lynchburg Women Fall 68-53

LYNCHBURG, VA – Lynchburg College was pressed the entire first half, setting up multiple scoring opportunities for Eastern Mennonite University as the Royals took advantage for the 68-53 victory Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

The Royals got off to a fast start, taking an early four point lead, 13-9, five minutes into the matchup. Lynchburg sophomore Lauren Penley cut the lead in half with a layup before EMU went on another scoring run, leading by as much as 16 in the first half. The Royals' pressure forced the Hornets into 12 first half turnovers. Penley and sophomore Katie Reeves kept the game close, 38-31, at the half as the duo combined for 19 of the Hornets' 31 points.

Lynchburg would get no closer than they were at halftime, trailing by as many as 21 points with 7:59 remaining.

Reeves led the Hornets (9-5/4-2 ODAC) with a game-high 13 points. Penley finished with 11 points, all coming in the first half. She contributed seven boards to lead both teams. Sophomore Shannon Allan was held in check most of the game, ending with 11 points of her own.

Bianca Ygarza led the Royals (9-5/5-1 ODAC) with 12 points. Keyla Baltimore added 11 points and three steals.

Lynchburg College travels to Virginia Wesleyan College (7-6/3-2 ODAC) on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip in conference action.
