Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team halted their losing streak at three Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks picked up a 60-46 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the host Frostburg State University Bobcats.

For the game, St. Mary's (6-6, 1-2 CAC) dominated the boards with a 51-43 margin over Frostburg State (4-9, 0-3 CAC).  Senior Joanna Murray (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) and juniors Marche Pearson (Baltimore, Md./Laurel) and Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) led the charge on the glass with 11 rebounds apiece.  It was a career-high effort for all three Seahawk players.

Murray recorded her first career double-double with a game-high 18 points and the 11 boards while senior guard Pui Sham (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) also finished in double digits with a dozen off the bench as Sham went 4-of-8 from downtown.

The Seahawks used an impressive start to the game to gain control and never trail in the contest en route to their first conference win of the season.  Senior forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) ignited a 19-2 run for St. Mary's with a layup at 19:42 while Frostburg committed 11 turnovers and missed its first six field goals over the first nine minutes of the game.

First-year Jodie Gaul (Harrisburg, Pa.) notched the Bobcats' first two points with a pair of free throws at 12:05 before senior guard Stephanie Straka (Jerome, Pa.) ended her team's field goal drought with a layup at 9:15.  Straka's basket guided FSU on a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to seven at 6:20.  Back-to-back Murray buckets stretched St. Mary's lead to double digits once again before the Seahawks headed into the locker room with a 30-23 halftime lead.

Murray paced all players at intermission with nine points while Pruden hauled in nine rebounds, including six defensive boards.

St. Mary's maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half, boasting a 17-point advantage on Sham's fourth three-pointer of the contest with 2:47 left in the game.  After senior forward Brynn Arnone (Keedysville, Md.) tallied Frostburg's final three points of the game at 1:53, neither team scored as the Seahawks held on for the win.

Arnone was the Bobcats' leading scorer and rebounder with 14 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Elaina Hummel (Huntingdon, Pa.) contributed 12 points and four assists.

St. Mary's looks to keep winning on Wednesday, January 9 as the Seahawks welcome the Notre Dame University of Maryland to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena for a non-conference game at 7:00 pm.
