Barber surpasses 1,000-point mark as Pointers defeat Eau Claire 51-49

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team slid past UW-Eau Claire Saturday evening 51-49 as senior Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) became just the 19th Pointer in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark.

The entire game was a defensive battle with turnovers proving to be the difference as UWSP (11-3, 3-2 WIAC) scored 18 points off of 19 turnovers by the Blugolds.
 
The Pointers took a 30-26 lead into halftime, but UW-Eau Claire grabbed a 46-45 lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the second half.
 
However, a free-throw by Kaitlyn Jacobs (New Franken, WI/Green Bay Preble) tied the game at 46 and Alyssa Olp (Brillion, WI/Brillion) gave UWSP the lead for good when her jump shot with just over four minutes remaining put the Pointers on top 48-46.
 
Barber needed just six points in Saturday's game to surpass the 1,000-point mark, which she managed to get 12 minutes into the game off a jumper.
 
Myranda Tyler (Grafton, WI/Grafton) recorded a team-high 13 points and pulled down a season-high eight rebounds.
 
Sarah Bingea posted a game-high 16 points and added eight rebounds for Eau Claire (7-8, 2-4 WIAC).
 
The Pointers' next game is Wednesday, Jan. 9 as they head to Menomonie to take on UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
