Medaille Women Cruise Past Penn State-Altoona in AMCC Road Action

ALTOONA, PA - The Medaille College women's basketball team started the New Year with a convincing (81-42) road victory over AMCC foe Penn State-Altoona this afternoon.  The Lady Mavs dominated in every facet of the game en route to the victory.

The Lady Mavs received a command performance from junior Joelle Pollak who led all scorers with (24) points as she put together a strong all-around performance.  She knocked down (9 of 16) shots from the floor, including a (4 for 7) effort from beyond the arc.  She also pulled down (6) rebounds, matched a game high with (5) steals while also dishing out (4) assists.

A pair of Lady Mavs chipped in with (14) points apiece as both Emily Brophy and Alicia Montalvo accomplished that feat.  Brophy was (6 for 12) from the field and (2 for 3) from long range while Montalvo was (5 for 9) with (6) rebounds on the day as well.  The top rebounder on the day for Medaille was rookie Brittnee Perry who gathered in (10) caroms while also dishing out (4) assists, swiping (5) steals, and scoring (8) points.

Other game highs that were posted by Lady Mavs include the five assists that Brittney Rowland registered and at the other end of the floor junior Tara Caples swatted away four Lion shots. 

The Lady Mavs were in control the entire way.  The opening minutes of the second were the most dominant as they increased their lead to (43) points as they got out of the gate by outscoring Altoona (26-8) in the first ten minutes of the second half.  The Lady Mavs led (39-18) at the break.  The Medaille defense was stifling at times as they forced Altoona into (21) turnovers which they turned into (29) points on the other end of the floor.  The Medaille bench dominated their counterparts, outscoring the Altoona reserves (38-6) in the win.

It was a fairly clean game from the officiating standpoint as the teams combined for just (14) free throws, with Penn State-Altoona only managing to get to the line twice.  The Lady Mavs also did a nice job of taking care of the ball as they committed just (13) turnovers.  They also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Lions (49-33).

The win is the second in the past three games for Medaille and pushes them back over the (.500) mark as they are now (6-5) overall and improve to (4-1) in AMCC play.  They will get right back at it tomorrow when they head to Pitt-Greensburg for another AMCC showdown with a 1:00pm tipoff against the Bobcats.
