A late three-pointer by La Roche's Cassie Cygan snapped a tie game and the Redhawks hung on to defeat the Pitt-Bradford women's basketball team 58-49 Saturday.

La Roche was playing for the first time in nearly three weeks and early on it appeared the Panthers were game for the upset.

Carly Dalton's three-pointer eight minutes into the contest capped a 14-2 opening flourish by Pitt-Bradford.  The Redhawks rallied, outscoring the Panthers 18-8 over the next 10 minutes to even the score at 22 with two minutes remaining in the half.

After La Roche went ahead by three, Geena Sneeringer scored on a layup with 1:06 left to make it 25-24 at the break.

The second half was a back and forth affair as the game was tied or the lead exchanged hands 21 times. Trailing by two with 3:09 remaining, the Redhawks rattled off four straight points to regain the lead 49-47. Out of a timeout, Sneeringer scored inside to even the score yet on La Roche's ensuing possession, Cygan drilled a three-pointer from the left wing for the go ahead basket.

The Panthers missed on a pair of game-tying shots on the other end, and the Redhawks pulled away in the final minute by going 6-7 from the free throw line.

The two squads entered the contest as the conference leaders in scoring defense and the stats reflected it. The game only featured two made three-pointers and both teams shot less than 40 percent from the field.

Pitt-Bradford hit on 32 percent of its attempts and outrebounded the Redhawks by five, but committed a game-high 21 turnovers. La Roche scored 16 points off turnovers while shooting 39 percent from the field.

Sneeringer led the Panthers with her second straight double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Alicia Kimmel chipped in with 17 points and Melanie Yanetsko pulled in 10 rebounds.

Pitt-Bradford, which has lost two straight, falls to 4-6 on the year and 2-2 in the AMCC. The Panthers play at Franciscan Sunday.
