Albright Women's Basketball Beats Norwich in Florida

The Albright College women's basketball team shot an efficient 61.9% in the first half as the Lions defeated Vermont opponent Norwich, 67-53 on Friday night in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Lions made 13-of-21 field goals in the first half, led by senior Kari Ludy (4-5, 8 points). Albright led just 36-31 at the break however, as Norwich attempted 37 shots in the period. The Cadets committed just three turnovers to Albright's 10 over that stretch, and also pulled down eight offensive rebounds to keep things close heading into the break.

Sophomore Jessica Venturelli would pace the Red and White with 21 points, making four of her seven attempts from behind the arc. Junior Meghan Boyle had 13 points, while Ludy finished with 10. Freshman Kadijah Bishop had 16 rebounds.

The teams traded baskets for most of the first half, with Norwich's Sheridan Steiner tying the game for a fifth time at 28-28.

Venturelli broke the deadlock with her second consecutive three-pointer, and freshman Emily O'Donnell added a basket to make it 34-31 as Albright pulled ahead.

Norwich fought to within one on a Jessalyn Sweeney jumper in the second half, but the Lions never trailed after the break. Albright took its first double-digit lead on Bishop's basket with 3:35 to play, making it 61-51.

Aliah Curry had 14 points for the Cadets, while Kristine Brammer added 12 rebounds. Norwich falls to 4-6 on the season; Albright is now 5-4 and will face Averett on Sunday at noon.
