(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 11th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated rival Washington & Jefferson College, 61-57, today (Saturday, December 8, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Presidents fall to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the PAC.

W&J raced out to a 6-1 lead with 17:11 to play in the opening half when Chelsea Apke made a lay-up.  Thomas More answered with a 9-2 run to take a 10-8 lead when senior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) made a three-pointer with 14:15 to play in the first half.  The Presidents responded with an 8-2 run capped by an Emily Abraham lay-up with 11:09 to play in the half to take a 20-12 lead.  The Saints came right back with a 23-12 run to take a 35-32 lead with 1:10 to play in the half when junior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made a three-pointer.  W&J's Apke made two free-throws with 37-seconds to play in the half to cut the Saints' lead to 35-34 at intermission.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 9-2 run to extend the lead to 44-36 when senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a three-pointer with 15:44 to play in the game.  W&J answered with a 17-8 run to take a 53-52 lead on an Apke lay-up with 4:35 to play in the game.  The Saints closed out the game on a 9-4 run capped by two free-throws by Long with 11-seconds to play in the game for the final score of 61-57.

Beasley led three Saints in double-figure scoring with a game-high 15 points.  Joining her double figures was junior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with 14 points and Long with 12 points.  Long led the Saints on the boards with seven rebounds.  Beasley and Long led the team in assists with three each, while Kitchen led the team in steals with four.

The Saints are idle until next Saturday (December 15) when they travel to Springfield, Ohio to play Wittenberg University.  The non-conference game is scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. inside the Pam Evans Smith Arena.
