Lady Choctaws Fall to Rhodes, 64-55

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team lost their first game of the season to Rhodes by a score of 64-55 on Tuesday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Lady Choctaws (2-1) struggled from the floor out of the gate, only making three of their first 20 shots.  Rhodes (3-0) would take advantage and take a 15-6 lead just 10 minutes into the game.

MC got hot from there, making 16 of their final 23 shots in the contest and were able to cut the halftime lead to just 24-22.

In the second half, senior Jamie Lack scored with 16:15 remaining in the game to give MC their largest lead of the night at 28-25. Lack led the Lady Choctaws with 14 points, going 5-9 from the floor.

Lauren Avant tied the game just 50 seconds later with a three-pointer, and the game would go back and forth until the final minutes. Avant had a game-high 22 points, only going 4-15 from the floor, but hitting 13-17 from the foul line.

With 5:28 remaining, junior Jasmine James hit two free throws to put MC ahead 42-41, but Rhodes would go on a 12-4 run over the next three minutes to grab the lead for good.

The Lynx were hot from behind the arc, making 11 three-pointers and just eight two-pointers on the night.  Coming into the game, they were shooting just 30% from the three-point line.

The Lady Choctaws outrebounded the Lynx, 35-28, but 26 MC turnovers led to 21 points for Rhodes.

MC will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Shreveport, La. to face Centenary at 2:00 p.m.
