Medaille Women Race to Victory Over Hilbert in AMCC Action

BUFFALO, NY--The Medaille College women's basketball team played host to Hilbert College Wednesday night and won (65-50) after a hard fought battle against a rival AMCC conference team.

The Lady Mavs jumped out to an early lead after the first half, leading the Hawks 32-18. In the first half, the Mavericks hit on 13 of their 33 shots, good for 39.4%. On defense, they held the Hawks to only 30.8% shooting in the half, and preventing them from hitting a three pointer, as they went 0-6 behind the arc. 

The second half was alot closer between the two teams as the Mavericks only outscored the Hawks by only one point, edging them 33-32. Most of the damage from the Mavericks was done behind the three point arc as they hit four three pointers and connected on 71.4% of their free throws.

Leading the Lady Mavs was Tara Caples who finished the night with a double-double. Caples totaled (10) points and (12) total rebounds. Also contributing was Joelle Pollak who finished the day with (11) points and totaled (4) rebounds. 

This win gave head coach Pete Lonergan his 200th win since he has been the head coach of the Lady Mavericks. Lonergan has never had a losing season in his tenure at Medaille, and the worst record he has ever finished with was 13-12 back in the 2003-2004 season. His career record since taking over the team currently stands at 200-55, which is good for a .784 win percentage.

The Lady Mavs (4-2, 2-0) will host La Roche College Saturday at home at 1 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team.
