WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (3-2, 1-1 NJAC) suffered a 62-41 loss to visiting Montclair State (4-0, 2-0 NJAC) Nov. 28 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's basketball clash at the Rec Center.

The Pioneers were in the game early, leading by as many as four at 12-8 at the 13:21 mark, but that was the last time WP scored for nearly a seven-minute span, allowing the Red Hawks to go on a 13-0 run and seize a 21-12 advantage with 9:42 on the clock.  WP later cut the margin to five (23-18, 5:07), but a Nicosia Henry steal and layup and a bucket by Melissa Tobie eventually made it a nine-point game (27-18, 3:20), and MSU carried a 29-22 lead into the break.

William Paterson opened the second period with a layup by sophomore forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) and a jumper from junior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) to once again get within two possessions (31-26, 18:15), but Shalette Brown's steal and fast-break layup ignited a 15-0 burst for the Red Hawks that put the game out of reach at 46-26 with 9:24 remaining in the contest.

Marfo registered her first career double-double with 12 points and a team-best 12 rebounds, while Borova paced WP with 16 tallies.  Senior guard Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) finished with 11 points, and freshman guard Sara Luberto (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) dished out a game-high and career-best seven assists.

Tobie led MSU with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Janitza Aquino had 11 tallies and five assists, Henry chipped in 12 points and Brown contributed 10 tallies.

William Paterson will play at Richard Stockton Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1:00 p.m.
