BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille women's basketball team earned its second straight win when they outlasted non-conference foe, St. John Fisher College, (68-58) this evening in the Sullivan Center.

In their first three games of the season the Lady Mavs struggled mightily from the free throw line, going (23 for 49) or (46.9%).  In the win tonight, they excelled, knocking down their first (19) attempts from the charity stripe and finishing (19 for 21) for a (90.5%) outing.  Those free throws proved to be important down the stretch.

The Lady Mavs never trailed in the game and led by as many as twelve points.  However, the Cardinals were able to tie the game up on four different occassions, including erasing an eleven point halftime deficit within the first seven minutes of the second half.

However, a balanced Medaille attack would prove to be too much for the Cardinals to overcome as Medaille had five different players register double digits in the scoring column.  Leading the way was senior Brittney Rowland who netted a team high (15) points on (6 of 12) shooting from the floor.

Sophomore center Morgan Howe poured in a season high (14) points on (5 of 7) shooting and grabbed a season best (9) rebounds.  Junior Joelle Pollak had a strong all around game, finishing with (12) points, (4) rebounds while registering game highs in assists and steals with (5) and (3) respectively.  Both Emily Brophy and Brittnee Perry chipped in with (10) points apiece as well.

The Lady Mavs won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Cardinals (42-31) in the win.  The top rebounder for Medaille was sophomore Alicia Montalvo who pulled down a game high (10) caroms, including four off the offensive glass while also blocking a pair of Fisher shots.

A key to the victory was Medaille's play down the stretch as they held the Cardinals without a field goal for the final (4:51) of play.  The Cardinals had drawn within one point (57-56) on that layup but Medaille would stretch their lead with strong defensive play, some timely buckets, strong free throw shooting, and strong work on the glass to seal the win.

The win evens the Lady Mavs overall record at (2-2) as they will now get an extended rest period.  They don't hit the hardwood again until they head to Mt. Aloyius College on Saturday (12/1) where they will open up conference play against the Mounties at 1:00pm in Cresson, PA.
