Medaille Women Drop Heartbreaker to Baruch at Johns Hopkins Tournanemt

BALTIMORE, MD--The Medaille College women's basketball team traveled to Johns Hopkins to take part in the two day John Hopkins Tournament in Baltimore, Maryland. After a hard fought opening game against Baruch College, the Mavs ending up losing (63-61). 

It was a tale of two halves for the Lady Mavs. They started off slow in the first half and found themselves down 34-22 heading to halftime. After the half, the Mavericks would outscore Baruch 39-29 in the second half, closing the gap but never getting closer than two points away which occured after the last basket of the game late in the second half.

Leading the Mavericks in scoring was Joelle Pollak who finished the day with (21) points on 7-18 shooting, including 4-10 from behind the 3-point arc. She also added (7) rebounds and (4) steals in the game to help the Mavs defensively. Kayla Golden chipped in (11) points while senior Brittney Rowland finished with (8) points.  

Alicia Montalvo helped by adding a team high (7) rebounds along with Pollak and Morgan Howe added (6) rebounds herself. 

Overall, the Mavericks shot 36.1% from the field but in the second half, the converted on 44.8% of their shots, which was a tremendous increase from the first half. 

The Lady Mavs (0-2) will play Mary Baldwin Sunday in the final day of the John Hopkins tournament a 1 p.m. After they return home, the Lady Mavericks will host St. John Fisher at home Tuesday at 6 p.m.
