ROCHESTER, NY—Senior forward Erin Boggan (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) scored a game-high 19 points and sophomore forward Meredith Mesaris (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) added 18 to lead The University of Scranton women's basketball team to a 61-45 victory over the University of Rochester in the championship game of the Chuck Resler tournament Saturday evening.

The win was the first for the Lady Royals over the Yellowjackets since a 66-63 victory at the Long Center on March 10, 2006, in an NCAA sectional semifinal game.

For her efforts, Boggan, who also had 10 rebounds and blocked three shots, was named the tournament's most valuable player (MVP) while Mesaris landed a berth on the all-tournament team.

Coming off a 16-10 season in which they failed to reach the Landmark Conference championship game for the first time in five years, the Lady Royals picked up a much needed confidence-building win Saturday evening.  They did it by holding the Yellowjackets to just 26.3 percent shooting from the field and by pressuring them into turning the ball over 18 times.

Scranton, which also received nine points from junior guard Alison Sweeney (Wall, NJ/Saint Rose), eight points from senior guard Katherine Torto (Binghamton, NY/Seton Central Catholic), and six points, seven rebounds, and three assists from sophomore guard Lindsay Fluehr (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy), connected on 19 of 26 free throw attempts (73.1 percent), including 9 of 10 in the final minutes to seal the win.

Junior guard Paige Aleski (Bridgeville, Pa/Chartiers Valley) led Rochester, now 1-1, with nine points and sophomore guard Breanna Madrazo (Palos Verdes, Calif./Chadwick) and junior guard/forward Danielle McNabb (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) added eight apiece.

The Lady Royals will return to action this Tuesday, November 20, against the Lady Monarchs of King's College beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Long Center.
