More news about: Gallaudet

UTICA, N.Y. – It was a tough day for the Gallaudet University women's basketball team on the road against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe SUNYIT as the Bison struggled shooting the ball against the Wildcats. GU tied the game 40 seconds in before the Wildcats pulled away and never looked back en route to a 51-30 victory on Sunday.

Gallaudet (3-7, 1-3 NEAC South Division) only made 14.8 percent of its shots from the field in the game and only made 3-of-30 in the second half as the Bison were outscored 21-12 after trailing 30-18 at halftime.

The Bison were led offensively by sophomore guard Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.) as she scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and passed out two assists. Weiss made GU's only three-point attempt, 40 seconds into the game, but then missed her final 10 tries against the tough Wildcat defense. Freshman forward Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) chipped in six points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds in the loss.

SUNYIT (8-2, 2-0 NEAC North Division) had three players reach double figures in points led by guard Kwanisha Jones' 11 points followed by Lyndsey Brognano and Abbey Hanehan with 10 points each. Forward Nailah Cherry had eight points, a team-high 11 rebounds and two blocks in the win.

GU will next hit the road on Wednesday, Jan. 11, to face Lancaster Bible College at 4 p.m. in another conference game.
