CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior forward Vanessa Powers (Marshfield, Vt.) scored a game-high 20 points to lead three Spartans in double-figures as Castleton State College downed visiting Johnson State College 86-33 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball action Tuesday evening at Glenbrook Gymnasium.

The Spartans have now won 12 in a row and improves to 18-4 overall and 15-1 in conference play. Johnson State slips to 4-19, 2-14.

Powers finished just one rebound shy of her third-straight double-double and finished 10-for-16 from the field in just 22 minutes of play during the one-sided affair. Tarryn Bolognani (Whitingham, Vt.) followed with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Alyssa Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) added a dozen points. Heather Murdough (Hillsboro, N.H.) and Meghan O'Sullivan (Merrick, N.Y.) each grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds off the bench.

Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt.) led the Badgers with 15 points, while Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt.) added 12.

Castleton never trailed, but struggled to find its rhythm early on, going a lengthy four-minute stretch without a field goal midway through the first half. Midway through the half the Spartans found their groove, and reeled off 20-unanswered points to grab a 39-10 lead with just less than three minutes remaining before halftime.

The Spartans turned 22 Johnson State turnovers into 29 points and held a distinct 38-8 advantage in the paint, as well as a 25-2 advantage off the bench. Castleton also moved the ball racking up 22 assists on 35 field goals while shooting 46.7% (35-75) from the field and turning the ball over just 12 times.

Castleton will host New England College Thursday at 5:30 pm. A win guarantees the Spartans the top-seed in the upcoming NAC Tournament. Johnson State will travel to Husson Friday for a 5:30 pm NAC tilt.
