Illinois Wesleyan Women Win by 41 over Cardinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team improved to 10-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with an easy 95-54 win over North Central at the Shirk Center on Wednesday (Feb. 8).

The Titans, who are 17-5 overall, trailed 20-13 with 13:53 to play in the first half before holding the Cardinals scoreless for just over seven minutes, until 6:54 to go before halftime. During that stretch IWU scored 20 points to go on top 33-20.

The Titans shot a blistering 64.5 percent in the first half (20 of 31) and forced 22 Cardinals turnovers. IWU finished at 60.0 percent (39 of 65) while making 5 of 18 3-pointers and 12 of 17 free throws.

Senior Olivia Lett finished with 23 points while juniors Melissa Gardner and Michelle Bilek added 16 and 14, respectively. Lett also had eight rebounds and five assists.

North Central, who got 9 points out of Sophie Newsom, fell to 6-16 overall and remained winless in the conference in 11 games. The Cardinals committed 34 turnovers and shot just 31.3 percent in the game (15 of 48), making 8 of 23 3-pointers and 16 of 23 free throws.

The Titans outrebounded the Cardinals 36-31.

Illinois Wesleyan travels to Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday (Feb. 11) for a matchup against CCIW second place Carthage. The Lady Reds fell to 17-5 overall and 8-3 in the league with a 51-49 home court loss to Wheaton on Wednesday.
