Providence, R.I.-Senior guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) finished with 16 points as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team routed UMass Boston, 70-43, at the Clark Athletic Center in Little East Conference action on Saturday.
 
With the win, RIC (19-2, 10-0 LEC) extended its winning streak to 16 games, and is now one win away from tying the program record for victories in a season. The Anchorwomen continue to hold sole possession of first place in the Little East.
 
"We had great ball movement against their zone, which resulted in some great looks and high percentage shots for us," Head Coach Marcus Reilly said. "We packaged that with the defense we are capable of in the second half to seal the win. Every conference game is critical moving forward and we have to build on our second half today."
 
Rhode Island College's stifling defense forced 20 turnovers and held UMass Boston (5-15, 2-8 LEC) to just 28 percent shooting (13-for-47) from the floor. The Anchorwomen also owned the glass as they outrebounded the Beacons, 48-32.
 
Meanwhile, the Anchorwomen lit up the scoreboard in the first half, outscoring the Beacons, 41-29, while allowing just 14 points on the defensive end in the second frame. RIC shot 40 percent from the field (27-for-68), including 6-of-19 (32 percent) shooting from downtown. 
 
Senior guard Cynthia Gaudet (Coventry, RI) tallied 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win. Senior guard Nicole Girard (Foster, RI) added nine points, while senior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) recorded eight points, five boards and four steals. Junior forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) posted seven points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Ashley O'Dell (Lincoln, RI) registered four points, six boards and four assists.
 
The Beacons were led by freshman forward Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, MA), who finished with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four blocks. Junior guard Teresa Pina (Boston, MA) totaled 12 points, seven boards, and three steals, while freshman guard Lauren Perra (Taunton, MA) added 11 points.
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Feb. 7 (5:30 p.m.).
