Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City) became UWRF's all-time leading rebounder in helping the No. 25 women's basketball team to a thrilling 58-56 victory over UW-Platteville at the Karges Center.

Dohrn now has 845 rebounds in her four-year career. She breaks the record held by current Falcon assistant coach, Traci Reimann, who had 840 career rebounds.  Dohrn came into the game needing only nine rebounds for the all-time record, and with 9:18 remaining in the game, Dohrn grabbed the record-breaker with the Falcons leading 41-36.  But none of her rebounds may have been bigger than her 13th rebound of the game. With the Falcons up by two with 4.2 seconds remaining, Dohrn grabbed the ball off a missed free throw to secure the Falcon victory.

Dohrn's rebounds were crucial in helping the Falcons hold off Platteville.  Dohrn finished with 13 throughout the game, surpassing her season average of 11, and leading all players. As a team, the Falcons outrebounded the Pioneers 42-31.

The game was a back-and-forth thriller, with neither team garnering a lead of greater than seven.  Both teams went into the locker room at halftime with the score knotted up at 23.

The Falcons made big plays when they needed to sown the stretch.  With 2:19 remaining, UWP had a 56-54 lead over the Falcons.  However, Jessie Van Wyhe (Albertville, MN, St. Michael-Albertville) sank both free throws to tie the game, and the Falcons were able to take the momentum needed to close out the game victorious.  Van Wyhe would finish the game with six points.

Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville) led the offensive charge for the Falcons.  Her 19 points led all players.  She also made three 3-pointers, all at critical moments to help the Falcons maintain momentum to fend off the pesky Pioneers.

Although the Falcons were not as sharp on shooting, they were able to make up for it by connecting on three-pointers.  As a team, they were 5-14 for 35.7 percent.   Holst led all players with three. UWRF held UWP to 2-10 shooting from behind the arc.  However, Platteville was much better from the field, shooting 24-58 for 41.4 percent.  Nevertheless, that did not matter as the Falcons were able to squeak out a victory on 37.7 percent shooting, connecting on 20 of 53.

Brittany Gregorich (Altoona, WI, Altoona) came up with some huge plays on defense.  She had two blocks and eight rebounds.  She also was able to cover the floor for loose balls that made a difference in helping the Falcons maintain possession.  She ended the game with six points for an all-around solid performance.

Nikki Guhr (Muskego, WI, Muskego) added 15 points and three steals for UWRF, who came into the game currently in third place in the WIAC.  However, the remaining schedule will see the Falcons back home at the Karges Center for the remaining three WIAC contests.  This is good news as the Falcons are 7-1 at Karges.

But before the Falcons close out the regular season at home, they will hit the road.  Up next for the Falcons is a crucial matchup again UW-Eau Claire in Eau Claire.  Eau Claire is currently tied with Stevens Point for the WIAC lead.  Earlier this year the Falcons fell to the Blugolds, 63-57 at the Karges Center.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.  The Falcons are 29-51 all time against the Blugolds.

With the victory, the Falcons sweep the season series against Platteville.  On Dec. 3, the Falcons beat the Pioneers 67-46.  UWRF is now 40-24 in the all-time series.

The Falcons are now 16-4 overall and 8-3 in the WIAC.  Platteville meanwhile, falls to 8-12.  They are 4-7 in the WIAC.
