Spartans Race Past Terriers

Castleton, Vt. – The Thomas College women's basketball team dropped an 87-39 decision to the Spartans of Castleton State in a North Atlantic Conference regular season match-up Friday evening. The Spartans jumped out to a forty point first half lead as they handed the Terriers their 15th loss of the season.

Senior Karin Bird scored the game high for the Terriers, (2-15, 2-9 NAC) finishing the evening with a 19 point performance. Castleton's (13-4, 10-1 NAC) Vanessa Powers led all scorers with 21 points while shooting 10-for-15 from the field.

The Terriers hung around for the opening five minutes of play, but  a Powers lay-up put the Spartans up for good and ignited a 15-2 run over the next eight minutes as Castleton pushed its lead to 22-8. After trading baskets in successive trips, Castleton took control for good, reeling off a 28-2 run, and holding the Terriers without a field goal for the final eight minutes in the half to take a 54-14 lead into the interval.

The Terriers will finish their road trip with a 1 p.m. match-up at Green Mountain College tomorrow afternoon. The Terriers won their first match-up with the Eagles 79-54 on December 2nd.
