McCarthy's Highs Lead F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. – Kristina McCarthy recorded career-highs with 20 points and 21 rebounds, just four boards shy of the school's single game record, to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 69-57 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action Wednesday evening. The win improved the Diplomats to 11-5, 8-3 CC while the Red Devils fell to 2-14, 2-9 CC.

The Red Devils kept the score close in a first half that saw six ties. F&M took its largest lead of the half when Elizabeth Snyder hit a jumper with 2:31 left to give F&M a seven point lead, 28-21. Dickinson cut its deficit using a 7-2 scoring run, that featured a three-pointer by Sarah Phillips with 18 seconds left, to get within two points, 30-28, at halftime.

Dickinson took its first lead of the game when Bridget Borgese grabbed an offensive rebound and converted on a lay-up to put the Red Devils up by one. The Red Devils would lead once more just two minutes later, before the Diplomats took control of the game by going on a 21-4 run to push the advantage to 17. F&M kept its comfortable lead through the closing minutes to put the Red Devils away.

In addition to her career-high 20 points and 21 rebounds, McCarthy also added a season-high five blocks. Three other Diplomats saw double figures as Alexa Barbush netted 17 points, a season-high seven rebounds and four steals. Snyder tallied 14 points while Allison Bauer added 12 points.

The Red Devils were paced by Belma Mekic with a team-high 15 points while also bringing down five rebounds. Borgese added 14 points on the evening.

F&M pulled down 49 rebounds, 20 of which were offensive, and converted those second-chance opportunities into 15 points.

The Diplomats will travel to CC opponent McDaniel Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
