Diplomats Top Randolph-Macon

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - Alexa Barbush netted a career-high 26 points to lead the Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team to a 61-55 victory over Randolph-Macon in its opening game of the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday afternoon. The Diplomats have now won six straight and improve to 6-2, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 4-5.

Tuesday's contest with a back-and-forth affair that saw eight lead changes and six ties. The Diplomats took a 26-22 advantage into the break, before outscoring the Yellow Jackets by two in the second frame to secure the six-point victory.

Barbush set a new career high for the second time in three games to lead all scorers and post her fourth 20-point scoring performance of the season. The junior guard shot 8-of-12 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free throw line for the Diplomats. Megan Pauley also notched a career high on the day with 18 rebounds, while Kristina McCarthy totaled 14 points and eight rebounds and Allison Bauer added 11 points with five boards.

Maggie Roy and Christina Phelps each finished with 14 points to pace the Yellow Jackets, while Sarah Parsons also reached double figures with 11 points.

F&M returns to action against Scranton at the Puerto Rico Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 12:00 pm.
