BABSON PARK, Mass. – Babson College senior captain Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) became just the third player in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds as she helped lead the Beavers to an 82-32 victory over visiting WPI in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action at Staake Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Having now won 55 straight games against NEWMAC opponents, the Beavers, ranked 16th in the most recent D3hoops.com national poll, improved to 15-2 on the season and 11-0 in league play. The Engineers, who are the last NEWMAC team to defeat Babson with a 60-56 win back on February 18, 2009, fell to 4-14 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Entering the contest with 993 career boards, King reached the coveted 1,000-rebound mark when she hauled in her seventh of the night at the offensive end with 18:11 left in the second half. In doing so, she joined the Beavers' all-time leading rebounder Joanne Choate '90 and Babson Athletics Hall of Famer Michele Merten '95 as the only three players in program history with 1,000 boards. In addition, King also joined Merten as the only two people in program history to surpass both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.

In addition to King's 15 points, eight caroms, six steals, and three assists, Babson received 14 points, 12 boards, four assists, four blocks, and four steals from junior Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) and 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists from senior captain Nicki Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.). Fresh off a career-high 28 points on 8-of-10 shooting from three-point range on Saturday, first-year Erin Young (Westwood, Mass.) continued her red-hot shooting with 14 points while hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Liz Trainor (Beverly, Mass.) tossed in seven points for Babson and senior captain Kelly McKenna (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and junior Allanah Wynn (Quincy, Mass.) each added six as the Beavers won their seventh game in a row since falling to non-conference foe Southern Maine back on December 31.

WPI was paced by sophomore Siena Mamayek (Melrose, Mass.), who scored a team-high seven points, junior Cindy Chelius (Northfield, N.J.), who pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Senior captain Lauren Hannamann (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and first-year Taryn Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) each netted five points apiece for the Engineers, while senior captain Baillie McNally (Mapleville, R.I.) dished out three assists.

Babson dominated from the opening tip, scoring the first nine points en route to an overwhelming 23-1 run to start the game. Wurdeman scored eight of her 16 during that 11-minute span, while King added seven points, six rebounds, and a pair of steals. The Beavers would later achieve their largest lead of the half after a McKenna lay-up made it 32-6 with 6:17 to go before taking an eventual 34-13 cushion into the locker room.

WPI would get no closer than 20 in the second half, as Babson closed the contest with a 34-6 run over the final 12 minutes to run away with the 82-32 victory.

Babson shot 56.6 percent (30-53) from the field, while WPI was held to just 25.0 percent (12-48). The Beavers held a commanding 41-24 rebound advantage while their defense forced the Engineers to commit 26 turnovers.
