HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 24, 2012) – Senior Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) led all scorers with 23 points, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team lost a Tuesday night game with Empire 8 rival Hartwick College by a final score of 65-51. It was a turnover-filled first half, with the teams combining for 27 miscues over the first 20 minutes alone. Stevens never led, though the Ducks kept it close for most of the half. The Hawks' lead of seven points at the halfway point was there largest of the evening until that point.

Hartwick was active defensively, tipping many Stevens passes all over the court. A couple of instances, the Hawks stripped the ball and were able to score a couple cheap buckets off of some hustling defensive plays.

The Ducks never led in the game, though the score was tied as late as 6:30 in the first half, where Barrett made a jumper to tie the game at 13. The Hawks scored 12 of the next 17 points, however, opening up a 25-18 lead at the break.

The second half was anticlimactic, with Hartwick steadily increasing its lead, pulling away from the Ducks. Victoria Webber (Silver Spring, Md.) had 10 points for Stevens…Kate Purcell (Buffalo, N.Y.) led Hartwick with 21 points….both teams pulled down exactly 30 rebounds, despite the Hawks boasting three six-footers on their squad.
