JERSEY CITY, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University committed its third fewest turnovers of the season, but City University of New Athletic Conference-leading Brooklyn College outscored NJCU, 29-22, in each half, and defeated the Gothic Knights, 58-55, in a non-conference  women's basketball game on Monday night at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center on 'Coach Charlie Brown Court.'

NJCU (3-14, lost nine) only committed four turnovers in the first half, but couldn't match up with the size of Brooklyn, which improved to 13-5. The CUNYAC-leaders, at 6-0, won their fifth in a row and lead the all-time series, 3-2; it was the first meeting since February, 2005.

Brooklyn out-rebounded NJCU, 52-39, including 21-13 on the offensive glass, and had a 17-9 edge in second chance scoring. The Knights shot just 28.6 percent in the loss (16-56) and 10-of-21 from the foul line (.476), losing despite holding Brooklyn to 32.8 percent shooting as well (21-64). Brooklyn finished with 32 points in the paint.

In defeat, junior guard Gabrielle Rivera (Teaneck, NJ/Saint Joseph of the Palisades) recorded her first career double-double, leading NJCU with 11 points, a season-high 10 rebounds (seven defensive) and three steals in 39 minutes of play.
