Maroons Win UAA Home Opener

CHICAGO -- Led by Taylor Simpson's 18 points and eight rebounds, the second-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated New York University 77-55 in University Athletic Association action Friday night at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Game Summary

  • NYU (9-6 overall, 1-3 UAA) kept the Maroons off the scoreboard for the game's first three minutes before a 25-10 run gave Chicago a 25-14 advantage late in the opening period.

  • Chicago (15-0, 4-0) led 35-27 at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead throughout all but the first :08 of the second stanza.

Statistical Highlights

  • Simpson led all scorers (18) and rebounders (8). She connected on 9-of-13 attempts from the field.

  • Morgan Herrick also finished in double figures with 12 points.

  • Cara Bonito paced the Violets with 11 points, including three 3-point field goals.

  • Chicago won its 33rd consecutive regular season game, its 19th in a row at home, and its 18th straight UAA contest.

  • Chicago remained one of six undefeated teams in the NCAA Division III.

  • The Maroons won for the 44th straight occasion when leading at halftime.

  • Chicago notched its fifth straight win over NYU.

  • Simpson turned in her fifth consecutive double-digit scoring effort.
