ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Taylor Kreider once again sparked the Elizabethtown College offensive, producing a double-double performance. Kreider's points allowed the women's basketball team to pull even with 18th-ranked Lebanon Valley College with less than three minutes remaining, but in the end the Flying Dutchman opened things up and settled the game in their favor. The Flying Dutchmen defeated the Blue Jays Wednesday evening, 51-45, at Thompson Gymnasium.

Kreider was the standout player for the Blue and Gray. She again reached double-double status scoring 14 points and pulling down 16 rebounds, with 12 coming at the defensive end.  Kreider also came away with four steals and two assists.

Lebanon Valley (14-2, 5-0 CC) utilized their size differential on both sides of the court. The height advantage allowed the Flying Dutchmen to pull down rebounds to keep their offensive momentum flowing, and simultaneously gained opportunistic positioning on court. At the defensive end, LVC grabbed 33 rebounds, minimizing the Blue Jays second chances.

Elizabethtown (10-5, 3-2 CC) continually attempted to tighten the gap on the scoreboard from behind the three-point line. The work paid off, as E-town cut the game to a two-point margin with eight minutes left in the half. As the Jays closed in on their first lead of the game, Lebanon Valley rattled off enough points to put the Jays at a ten point distance. LVC rode the lead going into the locker room with the score 29-18 at the half.

In the second, LVC stuck to its game forcing the Jays to spread their scoring around between the five players on the court. Slowly but surely E-town chipped away, positioning themselves for a late-half run. Kreider's layup at 6:13 placed the Jays within one. With just less than three minutes left in the game, Stephanie Ellwood set up Kreider once again to tie the contest at 43 all.

Lebanon Valley would deliver the final blow on this night, though. The Flying Dutchmen's Kiely Chaklos sank her last four free throws to put the game out of reach as it neared the buzzer.

Nearly every Blue Jay that checked into the game contributed at least a point to the score. Jayci Scannapieco and Kendra Beittel both scored seven points. Ellwood racked up five points; three of the points were served up as one of the Jays crucial three-point shots. Ellwood moved the ball well in the offensive zone setting up her teammates with six assists.

The Blue Jays failed to gain a share of the Commonwealth Conference lead with the loss, falling to 3-2 in league play in the process. Their next shot to get back in the win column comes Saturday when they host Alvernia at 1 p.m.
