CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Elms College freshman forward Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) recorded a double-double of 14 points and 17 rebounds, and freshman Gianna Youngblood (East Freetown, Mass.) added her first collegiate-career double-double with 12 points and 10 boards to help pace the Blazers to a 66-39 victory over Wheelock College in Tuesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball game at Brunelli Court in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to 9-5 on the season, 6-1 in league action, while Wheelock remains winless at 0-13 overall, 0-7 in conference play.

Elms sprinted out to a 15-0 lead over the first 7:32 of the contest and increased its lead to as many as 33 (37-4) in the opening period when Parks completed a layup and a foul shot for a three-point play with 5:24 remaining in the half.

Keneisha Milton (Boston, Mass.), who led Wheelock with eight points in the first frame, scored six of those in the final four minutes of the half to set the score at 43-14 at intermission.

Parks netted 12 of her team-high 14 points in the first 20 minutes as the Blazers shot a sweltering 60.0-percent from the floor. Youngblood added nine points in the frame, while Parks cleaned up the glass hauling in nine of Elms' 23 first-half rebounds.

The Wildcats scored 14 of the first 19 points to start the second stanza highlighted by Kayla Drescher's (Wallingford, Conn.) six points during the stretch that allowed Wheelock to lower its deficit to 19 points (48-29 with 14:10 remaining in the game).

Elms then used a 12-0 run that featured six points by junior guard Jennifer Normandie (Westford, Mass.) over the next five minutes extend its lead back to 30 points giving the Blazers a 60-29 lead with nine minutes to play in the contest.

Wheelock then scored 10 of the final 16 points of the game to close out the Blazers' 66-39 win.

Normandie finished with 13 points, including nine in the second half, while senior guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore guard Ellen Donohue (Southington, Conn.) contributed six points each in the win.

Sophomore guard Emily Boucher (Ashburnham, Mass.) pulled in five rebounds off the bench, while Talmadge dished out five assists to help spark the win.

As a team, Elms shot 40.3-percent from the field, outscored the Wildcats 34-24 in the paint and used a 15-1 bench-points differential to secure its victory.

Milton tallied a game-high 15 points, while Drescher added 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Sarah McCaffrey (East Taunton, Mass.) chipped in nine points as Wheelock was limited to just 27.1-percent shooting from the floor.

Elms returns to NECC action on Thursday, Jan. 19 when it hosts Bay Path College at 7:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
