More news about: Medaille

BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille College women's basketball team scored its second straight win and the 10th in its last 11 outings as they cruised past crosstown rival and AMCC foe D'Youville College (72-53) in road action this afternoon.  The Lady Mavs took advantage of a lack of depth for the Spartans as the Medaille reserves outscored D'Youville's bench (24-3).

The Lady Mavs led throughout this contest and saw their lead swell to as many as (25) points as they continued their dominance over D'Youville.  The Lady Mavs have won nine straight over D'Youville, with their last loss being a one point setback on February 3, 2004.  The Lady Mavs made short work of the Spartans once again as they kept pace near the top of the conference standings.

Having a career day for Medaille was rookie Emily Brophy who was perfect from the floor with a (4 for 4) overall shooting performance, including knocking down all three of her attempts from behind the arc for (11) points.  Both Tanisha Travis and Joelle Pollak netted (13) points apiece with Travis also grabbing (9) boards.

Leading the way on the glass for Medaille was Tara Caples who earned her first start of the season and made the most of it finishing with (8) points and a game (and career) high (12) boards.  Senior Meghan Dougherty poured in a dozen points and led the Lady Mavs with five assists as well.

The Medaille defense forced D'Youville into (21) turnovers and they converted those miscues into (24) points on the offensive end of the floor.  They also tallied (17) second chance points and won the battle of the lane by outscoring the Spartans (28-22) in the paint.

The Lady Mavs improve to (11-4) overall and (7-2) in AMCC play.  They will host AMCC rival Penn State-Behrend on Thursday (1/19) at 8:00pm in the Sullivan Center.
