Regals Edge Leopards, 75-70

LA VERNE, Calif. - Cal Lutheran overcame a five point second half deficit to earn a 75-70 road conference victory over La Verne on Saturday night. Channing Fleischmann was one of three Regals to score in double figures and led all players with 25 points.

For the second straight game Cal Lutheran led by double figures early on and the opposition came back to take a halftime lead. The Regals led 16-3 just over five minutes in before the Leopards chipped away and took a 40-38 advantage at the half.

La Verne knocked down six 3-pointers over the final nine minutes of the first half. Four different Leos contributed to that effort including a pair from Mia Roseboro and Brittni Tapia.

Erica Whitley and Fleischmann combined to score the first 11 Cal Lutheran points of the second half. A Whitley 3-pointer near the 16 minutes mark gave the Regals the lead, and a pair of Fleischmann free throws capped off an 11-3 run that put CLU up 49-43. 

Cal Lutheran led by as many as 15 points in the second half before La Verne made one final comeback attempt. The Leopards held the Regals without a field goal make over the final three minutes, but made just one of their final seven attempts from beyond the arc.

Fleischmann connected on 10-of-20 shots from the floor, to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Keeley Anderson and Cameron Jones scored 11 and 10 points, respectively off the Cal Lutheran bench.

La Verne's Megan Musashi scored 18 of her team-high 23 points in the second half.

Cal Lutheran (9-5, 3-1 SCIAC) will remain on the road to face Redlands (10-5, 4-0 SCIAC) on Thursday, Jan. 19.
