Lady Choctaws Clamp Down on Centenary, 79-59

SHREVEPORT, LA - The Mississippi College women's basketball team held Centenary to just 28% (20-71) shooting from the floor to pick up a 79-59 victory on Thursday night in the Gold Dome.

The Lady Choctaws (7-6) were led by junior Ebony Williams who set career-highs with 21 points and 12 rebounds for her first career double-double.  MC hit the boards hard, outrebounding the Ladies, 54-32.

The Ladies (4-10) controlled the first 15 minutes of the first half, holding a 25-18 advantage with 5:51 to go.  MC went on an 18-11 run to end the half and knot the game at 36-36 at the intermission.

In the second half, the Lady Choctaws opened the half with a 26-5 run that put them ahead 62-41 with 9:58 remaining in the game.  Centenary just shot 16% (5-32) in the second half, while the Lady Choctaws outscored them 43-23 and made 14-15 free throws.

Junior Elizabeth Brooks just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Junior Caitlin Brown tallied 14 points and six boards in the contest.

The bench for the Lady Choctaws came alive, scoring 38 points to just 14 for Centenary.  While Williams scored 21, freshman Madelyn Cross chipped in nine and fellow rookie Chelsea Humphries played big minutes scoring four first half points.

Centenary was led by Vashni Sharp-Moore with 13 points.  Jalena Sanders scored 10 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.  Leading scorer Megan Daniel was held to just six points after averaging over 15 coming into the game.

The Lady Choctaws will finish their road trip with a game at East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
