Amherst D Holds Rams in Non-Conference Loss

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell to the top-ranked team in Division III tonight, Amherst College, by a score of 61-32. The Jeffs remain unbeaten with a 13-0 record, while the Rams fall to 5-6.

In the first half, Farmingdale State held an early 7-4 lead over the first four minutes before a 10-0 Amherst run put the Jeffs ahead 14-7 with 9:49 remaining. The Rams cut the deficit to five points but a 14-3 spurt by Amherst would close out the half as they held a 32-16 advantage. Jeffs senior forward Lem Atanga McCormick (Chicago, Ill.) finished the half 4-for-5 with eight points, while Farmingdale junior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) scored eight in the first, including 2-for-3 from long range.

Amherst led throughout the second, although struggling from three-point territory, and would roll on for the non-conference win. The Jeffs finished with a 41-percent field goal percentage and eight blocks on the night, while the Rams shot just 21-percent from the field for the game.

Farmingdale's Green led her team with 15 points, while senior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y.) controlled the rebounding with a team-high nine rebounds.

For Amherst, McCormick posted a game-high 16 points (8-for-9) and pulled down five rebounds. Freshman forward Megan Robertson (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the second player in double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

The Rams will now host The Sage Colleges on Saturday, January 14 at 1:00 p.m.
