Lady Mavs Drop Low Scoring Affair at La Roche

More news about: Medaille

PITTSBURGH, PA - In what was a sloppy all around game for both teams, the Medaille women's basketball team came out on the short end of a (47-38) score on the road at La Roche College.  Neither team was able to knock down shots consistently and the free throw line turned out to be an Achilles heel for the Lady Mavs.

The Lady Mavs were only able to muster (13) points in the first half as they trailed by eleven at the break, with both team only hitting (20.0%) of their shots in the opening twenty minutes.  The second half would see Medaille play more efficiently as they connected on (42.9%) of their shots from the floor.  However, a (2 for 11) day from the charity stripe, coupled with (18) turnovers, contributed to the loss.  The Redhawks scored (16) points off turnovers, cashed in (14) second chance points and saw their bench outscore the Lady Mavs reserves (18-3).

Despite the loss, a new program single game record was established as Tanisha Travis grabbed (23) rebounds, outdoing the (22) rebound performances that were put together by Amanda Baker in February of 2005 and Andrea Belis in November of 1999.  Travis grabbed (16) boards in the first half alone and finished the game with seven offensive rebounds to go along with a game high (15) points and two blocked shots.  She now has (640) career rebounds, which ties her for 5th on the programs all-time record list.

The shooting woes were felt by almost everyone, however, Brittney Rowland connected on half of her attempts while also knocking down (2 of 3) shots from behind the arc for six points.  Sophomore Joelle Pollak tallied (9) points and senior Meghan Dougherty tied a game high with four assists.

The loss snaps an eight game win streak for the Lady Mavs and drops them to (9-4) overall and (5-2) in AMCC play.  They will look to get back on track when they host Penn State-Altoona on Saturday (1/14) at 5:00pm in the Sullivan Center.
