Connecticut College Women's Basketball Wins At Trinity

Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore forward Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) had 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the visiting Connecticut College Camels to a 65-56 win over the Trinity College Bantams in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball league opener for both teams this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity drops to 5-5 with its first loss in three games and its first loss to Connecticut College since 2004, while the Camels improve to 10-1 with their seventh consecutive victory and snap a seven-game losing skid to the Bantams.

Trinity opened up a 12-5 lead after the first nine minutes and led, 18-11, before eight straight points gave the Camels a 19-18 lead with four minutes left in the first half.  A put-back by Trinity senior co-captain guard Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.) in the final 10 seconds gave the Bantams a 28-24 lead at the break.

Trinity used a 6-0 run to take a 41-35 lead on a layup by junior guard Carly Napier (Pittsford, N.Y.) almost eight minutes into the second stanza.  Connecticut College took the lead at 48-47 at the six-minute mark of the second half on a jumper by freshman guard Carlee Smith (Windham, Conn.), and scored the game's next six points.  Trinity closed to 60-56 with less than a minute on the clock on a pair of free throws by senior co-captain guard Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury, Conn.), but Camel senior guard Jenn Shinall (Redding, Conn.) six free throws down the stretch the seal the win.

Ciarleglio paced Trinity with 17 points and added a team-high six rebounds and five assists, while Napier chipped in with 12 points and four assists.  Connecticut College sophomore center Caitlin Cimino (Falmouth, Maine) added 14 points, and Smith and Shinall each scored 13 points.  Cimino blocked three shots, Smith also dished out six assists and Shinall made four steals.
