KEAN OUTLASTS RAMAPO, 90-84 IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The Kean University women 's basketball team came back from a ten point deficit with ten minutes to go in the second half to defeat Ramapo, 90-84. With the win the Cougars improve to 6-1, 2-0 overall while the Roadrunners fall to 4-2, 0-2.

The Roadrunners lead 41-38 heading into the locker room before they stretched their lead to nine in the second half with a 9-0 run capped off by a jumper by Lindsey Gripenburg at 15:35 (55-46). The Cougars cut the lead to five with 10:51 left in the second half (61-56) on two made foul shots by Naimah Clemons.

The Roadrunners stretched their lead back to nine, 65-56 with 9:48 on the clock before the Cougars once again cut the lead to five, 65-60 on a jumper by Clemons. Alexa Ryan made a basket and was fouled before she converted her foul shot to take an eight point lead before Jackie Jerkovich hit a jumper of a steal by Faith Flannery to take a ten point lead once again with 9:16 left in the game. The Cougars went on 9-1 run capped off by a jumper and made foul shot by Clemons; she posted her 31st point on the play giving her 1,000 for her career with 6:12 remaining. Ramapo scored back to back baskets to stay in the lead 74-70. Kean began to pull away just under five minutes left in the game as they took a three point lead, 77-74 before Gripenburg hit a big three pointer off a pass by Alayna Donadio to tie the game at 77 with 4:13 on the clock. Kean and Ramapo traded shots to tie the game for the sixth time at 79 before the Cougars took control down the stretch for the 90-84 victory.

Ramapo had all five of their starters score in double figures despite the loss. Alex Ryan led the team with 21 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists. Flannery posted a season high 15 points, three assists, three blocks and three steals while she shot 7-10 from the foul line. Ryan was 6-9 from the foul line while Gripenburg and Michaela Moore each added 12 points. Moore grabbed six rebounds and three steals and a team high four blocks. Alex Milne chipped in with five points and a team high seven rebounds.

For the Cougars, Clemons led all scorers with 35 points, five steals and seven rebounds; as she collected 12 of her points from the foul line (12-16). Danielle McFadden posted 17 points and a team high nine rebounds while Briana Winston added 15 points and six rebounds.

Both teams shot 48% from the field while Ramapo shot 50% from behind the three-point line and 60% from the charity stripe. The Cougars shot 18% from behind the three point line and 76% from the foul line.

The Roadrunners return to action when they host Centenary College on December 8th at 5:30 PM.
