Mack reaches 1,000 career points as Colby women's basketball beats Bates

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Rachael Mack (Augusta, Maine) became the 15th player in Colby College women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points and led all scorers with 20 points as the Mules took a 74-57 non-conference win over rival Bates College on Monday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
 
Mack has 1,015 career points in her 89th game with the Mules. She also reached 100 career blocks with two swats and is up to 99 career steals after adding two on Monday. Mack is the third Colby player in the past three years to reach 1,000 points, following Alison Cappelloni two years ago and Jules Kowalski last season.
 
Mack had 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting in the first half as the Mules (7-1 overall) shot 62 percent in taking a 45-35 lead at intermission.
 
Jil Vaughan (Wareham, Mass.) added 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals for Colby. Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) also had 13 points and four assists, Jayde Bennett (Lynn, Mass.) dished a game-high six assists, and Kelly Potvin (Sherborn, Mass.) had seven points and three assists.
 
Molly Brown (South Dartmouth, Mass.) led Bates (5-5) with 13 points and Allaina Murphy (Poland Spring, Maine) had 12 points. Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) had a team-high five assists.
 
The Mules shot 51 percent for the game and had a 35-30 rebounding edge. Colby also had 23 assists on its 29 field goals.
 
Colby led by as much as 13 points in the opening half at 43-28 before settling for the 10-point halftime margin. The Mules used a 7-0 run to start the second half and take control of the game.
