#20 Mount Union Uses Second Half Wave to Drown Bates

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- On the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, the No. 20 ranked Mount Union women's basketball team overwhelmed Bates (Me.) with a 14-2 run to open the second half on its way to a 76-55 win Monday at the Daytona Beach Shootout in Florida. 

Senior guard Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) made 7-of-13 shots, including five three-pointers, on her way to a game-high 19 points to lead the Purple Raiders (8-1) to their fourth win in a row.

The other double figure scorers for Mount Union were freshman Aly Daniel(Willard/Willard) who had eight of her season-high 12 points in the second half and junior point guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) who had 10 points.

The Raiders took control of the game on the glass as senior Amanda Rose(Green/Green) had a season-high and game-best 10 rebounds as Mount Union out-rebounded the Bobcats, 55-34.

Taryn O'Connell came off the bench with 12 points as the only double figure scorer for Bates (5-3).

Mount Union, which led 34-26 at halftime, blew the game open with a 14-2 surge to increase the lead to 48-28 with 16 minutes left to play.  The Raiders never looked back as they extended the lead to as many as 30 points before the 21 point win.

Mount Union stays in Florida and takes on Drew (N.J.) tomorrow night at 8 pm.
